Seasons of Spice

Each month we will give you a spice. Try it at home and share how you used it.

Spices were among the most valuable items of trade in ancient and medieval times. The use of spices spread rom the Middle East to the Mediterranean to Europe. Join the Wayne County Public Library for a Spice Exploration.

For September, the spice will be Harissa. Use the recipe provided or find you own, but send a photo of you dish -- print or digital.

Pike up spices and recipes during the first full week of each month:

Sept. 7-11: Harissa

Oct. 4-9: Herbs de Provence

Nov. 1-6: French Tarragon

Dec. 6-10: Maceway
