  1. Youth Mental Health First Aid

    September 21, 2018, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM @ Wayne County Park Street Complex

The course teaches participants the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, AD/HD, disruptive behavior disorders, and substance use disorder. Participants do not learn to diagnose, nor how to provide any therapy or counseling – rather, participants learn a core five-step action plan to support an adolescent developing signs and symptoms of mental illness or in an emotional crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, and self-help care. It is aimed at adults who regularly interact with adolescents (ages 12 to 18).

  2. Old Time Fiddlers at The Cooperage

    September 21, 2018, 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM @ The Cooperage Project

The Old Time Fiddlers, founded in 1978 by the late Fred Williams of Torrey, and the late John Beers of Bethany, natives of Wayne County, who assembled a group of individuals who shared their love and enthusiasm for traditional music. The Old Time Fiddlers performed for the first time at the Beach Lake Community Hall. Since that time the group has performed at grange halls, schools, churches, fire halls and benefits throughout Wayne and neighboring counties. The members’ diverse musical tastes and tune choices makes for an enjoyable show. Attending a show is like stepping back to a simpler time in life. The tunes are played on acoustic instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, upright bass, accordion, and fiddle. The various fiddle styles performed include Irish, Scottish, Canadian, bluegrass, Texas swing, and old-time.
