Second Saturday: Sweetbriar Rose at The Cooperage2018-07-14T19:00:00The Americana-tinged folk-noir band Sweetbriar Rose is a band of rootsy, thorny, rose-hipped gypsies who you’re equally likely to run in full sun, barefoot on a field of bluegrass, brood in three-part harmony over a murder ballad in a shady grove, or channel the spirit of a 1940’s Balkan jazz joint.
The band is led by award-winning songwriter and singer Heather Shayne Blakeslee, and been featured at regional venues and festivals such as World Cafe Live, Bourbon & Branch, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Brandywine Folk Festival, Bethlehem’s Musikfest and at the New Jersey Folk Festival.
The performance features Arrah Fisher, a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and former front woman of Arrah and the Ferns. She has recently relocated to Honesdale, where she and her husband have taken up hop farming and quieter living. Fisher’s warm guitars, ethereal vocals, infectious melodies, and dark undertones blend influences of folk, country, indie-pop, soul and blues.
