  1. Hydrilla Workshop

    Hydrilla is an aquatic invasive plant that can out compete many native organisms and disrupt ecological systems within and around an infested body of water. It is notoriously difficult and expensive to manage and can quickly make boating, swimming and fishing nearly impossible if left untreated. Hydrilla has been identified in Wayne County's Lake Alden and recorded by the PA Natural Heritage Program in the PA iMapInvasives database. This workshop will focus on identification of Hydrilla and management options as well as methods to prevent the spread of aquatic invasives between waterbodies.

    Richard Jermyn, DO, Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Director of the NeuroMusculoskeletal Institute at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ leads us in a discussion of pain management and opioid tapering. Managing pain in older adults can be complex due to age-related physiologic changes, comorbidities, and polypharmacy. Pain may be difficult to recognize and treat.     Six workshops will be offered to provide support and focus on grief as a normal part of an individual’s transition through life. Acknowledging that grief is a very individual process, the Support Group will encourage participants to explore their own solutions to the challenges of living without their loved ones and dealing with the many changes that follow a loss. The support group will be facilitated by Rev. Edward K. Erb, Wayne Memorial Hospital and Hospice Chaplain, and Hospital and Hospice Social Worker Anna Walsh. The group will provide a safe place in which individuals can sort out their feelings and share as they are able and willing. No one will be required to share. Your experience will be enhanced by attending all sessions; however, it is understandable if you cannot attend some. You may enter or exit at any time.

    The Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) program, a regrant initiative of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), a state agency, administered in northeastern PA by the Pocono Arts Council (PoconoArts), is now accepting applications for PROJECT STREAM grants for art projects in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties. Arts-related and community-based non-profit organizations or individual artists conducting arts programming open to the community are eligible for the grants and are encouraged to apply. Awards, not to exceed $2,500, will be made through a local decision-making process. A total of $46,867 in awards will be made in the 5-county area.

    In case of inclement weather, please call 253-4646 two hours before the start of your distribution day for an automated message. For information about how to register with a pantry, you should call 253 - 4262. Please bring large brown paper bags & plastic bags with you each month to recycle. Bring Campbell’s labels to distribute to schools. If you are unable to attend, you may ask someone to pick your food up for you. However, they must have your pantry card and a note/proxy giving them permission to pick up your food.
